The objective of this assignment was for students to draw a location on ORU from a unique perspective.
The professor wanted to challenge students into drawing a complicated layout. It needed to have interesting twists and angles to work with. He encouraged us to draw from stairwells or illustrate unique areas of the futurist buildings on campus.
I decided to illustrate the chapel staircase because of the stair rails. While they began and ended at separate locations, they meshed right in the middle. I admired the twisting quality of the stairs and the way the diagonal pillars shifted the setting’s composition. It took a while of walking up, down, and around the stairs before I found the angle depicted here.
My professor enjoyed this image so much that he asked if I would loan it to him. He wanted to use it as a sample for students in some of his other classes. I agreed, and he kept it for two semesters before returning it to me.
