This charcoal abstract is a follow-up to an earlier assignment in the semester. We were to take the subject of the previous “zoom-In” project and create something more abstract. The zoom-in would serve as a source of inspiration for the charcoal abstract.
In the first assignment, students had to pick an object in nature and create a zoomed-in composition of said object. The student couldn’t use any photographs for reference. We could only use the object and our eyes to create the zoom-in.
For this assignment, students took the prior illustration and reimagined the object. They could create an abstract or elaborate on the cropping. Any reinterpretation that suited the creator was acceptable. I chose to create an abstract from the petal-like forms of the original image. .
